Are you currently preparing for your next ultramarathon and excited to face the challenge ahead of you. Are you happy with your training efforts so far? Are you keen to get to the finish line or in case of being a little more ambitious wanting to place high in the rankings?

Is there just something missing in your training that you know would really enable you to perform at your best?

You are not the only one.

I've been a runner for most of my life and more passionate now about running than I ever was before. Seventeen years of experience have taught me many lessons and one being that learning to read the signs and carefully listening to the body's signals is an ongoing, gradual process. And has got me to the point where I no longer needed to wear a heart rate monitor and track every single mile during training.

Ultrarunning training differs a lot from marathon training.

A marathon training schedule cannot replace an ultra marathon training plan.

I signed up for the Marathon des Sables in September 2007 and had only one question in mind: just how in the world can I get prepared in just 6 months? How can I get my body adapted to running almost 6 marathons in six straight days plus carrying a heavy backpack with me?

What would it take to prepare myself physically, mentally and finding the nutrition that would let me thrive instead of making me feel sick whilst running under the grueling sun of the Sahara Desert?

Already before I embarked on this journey I tried to find an ultra marathon training plan that would get me the desired results I was after. What essentially struck me as even more challenging about the Marathon des Sables was the long stage covering between 70 and 90 km in a time limit of thirty-four hours and therefore an extraordinary opportunity to test my mind to the limit - and beyond. I was under no illusion that it would take some damn good willpower to handle the distance.

And that was exactly where my mission started. I had nothing to lose and the clear intention to come out stronger on the other side. I started training with an ultra marathon training plan suited to my needs.

Many times I was wondering if 4 ½ – 8 hours of weekly running training would be enough to get me to the finish line. It turned out that entirely focusing on quality allowed me to free up extra time for core strengthening exercises and mental training. In addition, I also had enough time available to explore and test my nutritional needs and equipment.

All in all, I spent 30% of my time on running training, 20% on researching equipment, 30% on mental training and the rest on exercises and testing nutrition.

As the only woman from Switzerland that year, I crossed the finish line as 22nd woman out of 100 and 272nd overall in a field of over 750 participants. And that was only the start...

After refining, adjusting and tweaking my ultra marathon training plans I secured Top 4 finishes in every race I did. Something has got to be right about those plans!!

Ever since I took on ultrarunning 3 ½ years ago I feel that I'm finally able to see where I was heading to in all the previous years. I could look back on a solid base of endurance and speed which made it easy for me to step up to running ultra distances.

I know of many runners that are so fascinated by the imagination of running an ultra or from what they see in the media that they set foot into the ultrarunning scene without hesitiation. Nevertheless it takes tremendous amounts of courage.

Imagine what it feels like to know that you have trained in the best way possible for you? With an ultra marathon training plan that allows you to reap the fruits of all your hard turning your vision into reality?

It's time to turn towards an ultra marathon training plan that is more than just a combination of conventional marathon training plans mixed with some shorter workouts and off you go, racing your next 50K, 50 miler, 100 miler, 12-hour or 24-hour race.

You're an ultrarunner after all dedicating all your heart and soul into training, equipment and nutrition AND running a normal life with family, jobs and other responsibilities. Why continue wasting more time, energy and even money on a plan or come-as-you-go training sessions that kind of work but doesn't allow you to maximise your potential as an ultrarunner?

Ultrarunning is a fun, intense and rewarding sport and not exactly a walk in the park.

But there is no point to turn every other training run into an ultra-run. Less is more.

Your Ultra Marathon Training Plan is all about balance.

It's simply structured, easy-to-understand and designed around your personal needs.

Whether you're looking to improve your PB, have landed on this website wondering what ultrarunning is all about or simply interested to finding out how to best train for an ultra, then you have come to the right place.

I'm here for you, your personal ultrarunning coach showing you how to reach your goal with a marathon training schedule suited entirely to your individual needs guiding you in the right direction.

My ultra marathon training plan gets you the same results without all the detours it took me years of picking up small bits and pieces of the puzzle, sadly for me in the wrong order when I first started running and made all the mistakes you can possibly make. You get the results instantly but without the messing around and detours that I made when I first started running.

What other ultarunners have to say about the coaching

A. Maria from Germany: Anna coached me for 4 months as I had set out to race the Corsica Stage Race. She analysed my goals, strengths and weaknesses and created an ultra marathon training plan suited only to my needs. I was able to finish all six stages - the longest one being 65K – injury-free and came 1st female in my age-group. Without Anna's professional and efficient support I would have not had the courage and confidence to take on the adventure. Thanks so much!

Johnson from Malaysia: Thank you very much for your guidance on running a perfect race. Thanks for your tips, advice and coaching.

Mary from New York, USA: Perfect. It is the kind of schedule I most appreciate but never get: great advice and flexibility, allowing me to make educated decisions heading in the right direction. Thank you so much.

Margareta from Australia: I always felt that Anna was contactable, easy to approach and that she valued, nurtured and encouraged my goals. She was firm when she needed to be, sent my personalised weekly schedules punctually and always adapted or updated my program based on my feedback. The online approach was fantastic as I was travelling a lot during that time, and yet my coach was always available.

I would definitely recommend Anna as a coach to anybody interested in developing their fitness through running, wanting to prepare themselves for a race with personal goals in mind, or wanting to explore what they are capable of achieving.

Free yourself from 'I can't do this, my family/partner/friends think I'm crazy and besides, I just struggle for time to do all that training' self-talk. Move one step closer to your desired goal with a marathon training plan that is so much more than tracking miles, averages and times.

High-Mileage Training Is Old School

Unless you're a professional ultrarunner and have all the time in the world for training, eating, resting and sleeping you could tolerate high-mileage running training.

But even then, the balance suffers elsewhere and why stress your mind and body before the race has even started? Keeping all the energy that hasn't been used up in training for race day is more important instead of running yourself into the ground. There is a point where running for hours on end is not much fun anymore. The recovery period is longer and major training efforts are no longer beneficial.

I've been down that road and figured that if I still want to have many years of fun doing what I love doing – running ultra distances – I may as well ease up and invest more time and energy into another integral part that is equally important as collecting enough miles:

50% of a successful ultramarathon finish is down to how strong and willed you are mentally. Applying skills and techniques that build that strength must be a focal point in your training.

Invest 30% Of Your Time Into Becoming A True Racehorse

There is one striking element that is visible when a racehorse is released: its mental willingness is reflected in the eyes and physiognomy. It's power, it's energy, it's focus and total dedication. Every fibre and muscle of its body is in full tune with the purpose to give it all.

Have you truly felt like that before or did you go into your last race feeling slightly anticipated and anxious? Or was there a little voice inside you saying 'I think I'm well prepared'. Well, thinking you are ready and actually being ready are two different pairs of shoes. What you want is to stand at the start line of your next ultramarathon feeling like a racehorse in its race box before it is being released into open space – a bundle of sheer energy, power and focused on what it's got to do.

This Is What You Can Expect From Your Ultra Marathon Training Plan

Maximise your potential and peak-perform with these easy principles:

  • learn about the benefits of training without a heart rate monitor; with my plan you develop a feeling for pace and become more confident and less dependent on a watch
  • it's the time you spend running that counts rather than tracking every mile to the minute, it's ultra racing after all
  • you plan your sessions on the days where it suits you; no additional equipment or membership in a gym needed as core strengthening exercises can be done in your home
  • 1-2 key sessions per week such as intervals, hill reps and tempo runs are an integral part
  • alternative training options are built into your ultra marathon training plan
  • get into a state of peak performance in only 3 months, whether it's 50K, 100K, 100 miles, 12/24 hour-races, multi-stage and trail races

Why I Charge These Rates

My coaching fee for an ultra marathon training plan varies between 97$-157$. You receive the tuition you selected and decide after the first month whether you want to continue. Most ultrarunners I have coached sign up for 3 months on average because this time period proves to be sufficient enough to prepare for an ultramarathon.

Accuracy: I start designing your training plan by accurately identifying your next ultramarathon challenge with regards to your current life situation and responsibilities taking into account your time availability.

Depth: I value good communication and deeply care about your weekly progress. Based on the feedback I get from you I'm able to identify any necessary changes which is only beneficial for you.

Expert Advice: I'm an experienced ultrarunner, teacher and coach. You can get ultramarathon training plans by a novice, or you can select an expert with tremendous knowledge and experience. There are significant differences.

Quality: I care about my clients and therefore continually work to improve my skills and abilities, learning new techniques, strengthening my current abilities, and staying up-to-date with what's happening in the ultrarunning community.
